Notes from the BSG
chronology
This episode takes place 6 days after Earth's discovery.
Didja Know?
"Face of the Enemy" is made up of ten ~2-5 minute webisodes
which ran twice a week during the five weeks before the premiere
of Season 4.5. This study is of all ten webisodes together,
which run a total of 33' 53".
These webisodes are not found on the complete series Blu-ray and
DVD boxed sets due to disagreements about creator royalties
payments for web-streaming episodes versus television broadcast.
Since
"Face of the Enemy" was made up of short webisodes, there was no
opening theme/titles for them. There was also, hence, no fleet
population count presented.
The film and SFX quality of these webisodes is not quite up to
the level of those seen in regular episodes of the TV series.

Didja Notice?
Colonel Tigh orders Lt. Gaeta to go to the Zephyr for a
week's R&R for a break (after his stressful mission aboard the Demetrius, losing
his leg, etc.).
At 1:09 in the episode, an image that looks sort of like a Cylon
baseship is seen displayed in CIC. But it's not quite a normal
baseship.

This web series reveals that Lt. Gaeta is in a romantic relationship
with Lt. Hoshi. Oddly, this is not evidenced in any other
episode but, in his audio commentary on "The Disquiet That Follows My Soul",
Ron Moore reveals that these webisodes were shot after the
regular episodes of Season 4.5 (even though the story takes
place near the beginning) and the relationship angle was added
at that time. Gaeta is also revealed to have had a relationship
with a Number Eight Cylon (Sweet Eight) on New Caprica, indicating he is
bi-sexual.
Writer Jane Espenson has said that the script was
originally written to have Narcho be Gaeta's male lover, but
actor Sebastian Spence was not available when the web series was
shot post-season.
Similarly, Gaeta's Cylon lover was changed from a Six to an
Eight for the same reason. Espenson also states that Gaeta's
relationship with Hoshi ends after the tenth webisode,
explaining why there is no evidence of it in later TV episodes.
Hoshi implies that Paramedic Layne Ishay gave him the black
market morpha he gives to Gaeta.
The Number Eight that Gaeta had a relationship with on New
Caprica is referred to as Sweet Eight in the script. The other
Eight who is on the Raptor with Gaeta and the others here is
referred to as Hard Eight.
During the flashback to New Caprica at 11:00 in the episode,
Gaeta is writing down a list of names of people who have gone
missing on the colony since the occupation by the Cylons. Many
of the names are members of the production crew on the TV
series: P. Kim, G. Mah, Zahef Ehle, Shauna Magrath (assistant
makeup artist), Steven Blue, Stacy Fish (first assistant
director), Wayne Rose (director of these webisodes), Kevin Hall
(camera operator), and Peter Beharry.
At 12:11 in the episode, the special effect of Hard Eight's
corpse being pushed out of the Raptor into space is fairly
cheesy. Her body appears to be laying on it's side on a hard
invisible surface as floats off into space.
When Sweet Eight tells Gaeta she can interface with the Raptor's
computer and determine the corrupted memory, Gaeta says he
remembers that one of her did that once. This "other" her was
Caprica-Valerii (later known as Athena) in
"Lay Down Your Burdens"
Part 1.
At 19:02 in the episode, as Gaeta is helping Sweet Eight to
insert the data cable into her arm, he seems to say, "Oh, God,"
instead of "Oh, gods."
The flashback scene where Baltar tells Gaeta he knows what Sweet
Eight did on New Caprica is from the scene in
"Taking a Break From All Your Worries",
where Baltar whispers something (unknown to us at the time) that
makes Gaeta fly into a rage.
When Gaeta's gurney is wheeled through the Galactica
corridors to sickbay, there appear be numerous tiny pieces of
debris on the floors. Why? What is it? (In later episodes,
beginning with "Blood on the Scales", debris is seen on the
floor in various places on the battlestar, an indication that
the proud ship is beginning to fall apart from the years of
wear, tear, and battle. But such debris should not have been
present at this point in the timeline.)
